Hippie Style?

When thinking "Hippie Style," some may immediately think about bongs, lava lamps and crazy looking mexican ponchos. But, hippie style is actually very different from those initial thoughts.

When decorating a home, "hippie style" it is all about being earth friendly and sticking to a color pattern that is also earthy and fun. For instance, any color and any (well... almost any) pattern can be mixed and matched together for a fantastic result.

My favorite color combination to accomplish this hippie look is burnt orange, vintage blue, deep greens, dark yellows and dark reds. Mixing and matching these colors with pillows, throws, decorative items and lampshades can really add to a room and make it a place of comfort and admirable art. Take a look at these colors displayed in different rooms (in the pictures displayed above).

Being creative with color and pattern can go a long way in decorating fashionably. It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg either. For instance, you can hit the Anthropologie stores during sales and buy some of their linens for about $2.00 each. You can then sew them to make a new pillow case. You don't like that cute shirt from Forever21 anymore, but you like the pattern on it? Then make it a pillow case too! Or a table runner! The key is to think outside the box.

Happy decorating,

Mina
