In 2011, there are more luxury hybrid vehicle options than ever before. While some of these models can be had for a fairly affordable MSRP (somewhere below $50,000), there are also a handful of hybrids that are exceedingly expensive. For those who have money to burn, here are a few of the most expensive hybrid cars and SUVs for 2011.
2011 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid ($67,700)
Porsche enters the luxury hybrid market with the introduction of the Cayenne Hybrid. Given that the powerful engine offers an impressive 380 horsepower, the vehicle's estimated 21 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway are pretty good. Standard features include full-time all-wheel drive, sunroof, power front seats, driver memory seat, leather seat trim, dual-zone auto climate control, 10-speaker stereo and steering-wheel controls. Like all Porsche vehicles, the Cayenne Hybrid should appeal to those who want a sport-oriented vehicle that doesn't skimp on luxury.
2011 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid ($73,425)
The Cadillac Escalade has long been synonymous with opulent luxury. A hybrid version of the vehicle has been available for a while now, making it one of the most recognizable hybrid options for those interested in a luxury SUV. Standard features are extensive, and include 22-inch chrome wheels, sunroof, leather seats, memory driver's seat, heated/ventilated front seats, tri-zone auto climate control, navigation system and 10-speaker Bose stereo. While the 21 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway doesn't exactly stack up to smaller hybrids, fuel numbers are considerably better than what can be had with a non-hybrid Escalade.
2011 BMW ActiveHybrid X6 ($88,900)
Outfitted with a powertrain that delivers 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque, the ActiveHybrid X6 is one of the most powerful hybrid vehicles available for the year. However, all this power results in fairly low fuel figures for a green machine. The EPA estimates 17 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Still, this is a fairly decent improvement over the non-hybrid X6 (15 mpg city and 17 mpg highway). Standard features for this luxury hybrid SUV include 20-inch wheels, sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, heated power front seats, leather upholstery, driver memory functions, self-leveling suspension and 12-speaker stereo.
2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 ($102,300)
If you've got an extra six figures lying around, then the ActiveHybrid 7 just might be a good way to clean out your bank account. For that price you'll receive an ultra pampered driving experience that includes soft-close doors, automatic adaptive xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers, four-zone auto climate control, heated power front seats, leather upholstery, leather-trimmed dashboard, 16-speaker surround-sound stereo and much more. The V-8 engine and electric motor combine to deliver a dizzying 440 horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel efficiency is estimated at 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
2011 Lexus LS 600h L ($108,800)
The Lexus LS 600h L is a direct competitor to the BMW ActiveHybrid 7. While not quite as powerful as the BMW alternative, the Lexus still manages 389 horsepower. Fuel figures are reported at 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway (20 mpg combined). Standard features include power door closers, automatic parallel parking, leather-trimmed seats, heated steering wheel, memory power front seats, heated/ventilated front seats and a 19-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system. For the luxury hybrid shopper looking for the most expensive option on the market, the Lexus LS 600h L is poised to deliver.
