onald Judd was an artist of minimalism who truly inspired me with his work. I love his use of the square to make an artistic statement. So simple, yet so impactful. When decorating in the mid-century aesthetic it would make a beautiful statement to have a wall of squares. I think it's a fabulous idea! I may have to give it a go with one of our walls. Hmnnn.... I wonder which one. I'll need to think on that one. So... hopefully, I've inspired you to gather up some wood, a glue gun and some paint and go at it with some squares!! Thank you Donald Judd!! : )
Okay! So, now... the moment you've been waiting for... (((tun tun tun)))......the Alt Summit 2011! Yippee!!
The Grand America Hotel - Where all the magic took place...

I got to see some pretty amazing speakers... like Heather Armstrong from Dooce. She is so gracious and funny. If you haven't checked out her site, you totally should because she's pretty clever. You'll surely adore her!

I took a table top photography class taught by Tyler and Wendy Whitacre of Blue Lily Photo. I learned to finally use my fancy new camera and guess what? I took the picture of these cupcakes!! Yes! Me?? Aren't these the best cupcakes you ever did see? I know. I took some other pictures there too. See below...

A little circus dude...
little red baggie thingy magigs...

I went to some preeettty swanky parties while I was there too. Oh yea. This one was hosted by The Girls Who Wear Glasses and sponsored by Kate Spade. It was super cute. See below...

HGTV threw another nice party. The fountains of chocolate were delicious! Wow! Thanks HGTV!

So... I then... headed to the Sundance Film Festival. Yes! I did see one celebrity! See below...

Uh huh... my heart skipped a beat too. James Franco.

But... of course... I promised all of you something before I left for Utah. I said I would hug Seth Aaron (winner of Project Runway) and he would tell me what an awesome, amazing, incredible blogger I am, blah, blah, blah... well... ta dah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My moment with Seth Aaron and Mondo Guerra of Project Runway. I set out to accomplish my goal and I did it! Go me! Pat on the back! : )

All in all... I had a terrific time at the Alt Summit in SLC. I will try to go back next year if time and circumstances permit. I will write a bit more about it and what I learned throughout the week.

So... on to the sad news. I know you're wondering. As I arrived in Tampa, I got news that our family doggie, Astro, passed away yesterday afternoon just before I arrived. He'd been pretty sick for some time, but by yesterday it was too late. Our family is pretty devastated, as you can imagine. Losing a family pet is pretty tough and for us it's been like losing a member of the family. So, needless to say, I've been crying like a lunatic pretty much throughout the day. : ( So, I dedicate today's post to him and hope and pray that today he's in doggie heaven eating lots and lots of treats and getting lots and lots of belly rubs.

Here we are circa 1998. I can tell the time period by his handsome young looks and my ridiculous 90s outfit. Wasn't he so beautiful. Gosh, we'll miss him so.

Until tomorrow friends...

Mina
