Store your materials for crafts in an old, vintage cigar box! It keeps things neat, in place and fabulously vintage! I've been using this old French wine crate for a few years. At the current moment it is holding cardstock and yarn. As you see here, it was used to hold an orchid for a while. Point being.... so many uses for storage. I just love it! Although I currently have this up for sale, it is being used to hold meds. There is nothing worse than having a guest open up your kitchen cabinet and finding a million meds, pill bottles, Pepto Bismol... eeek! So, I store it all in here and it looks fab when someone opens up that cabinet! This retro catch all dish is just that... catch all! I put paperclips, rubber bands, pens, etc... on it all the time. It sits on my desk. I found this old chalk box on etsy (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9233915) at Kathy's etsy shop and marked it as a fave. Then? It sold! Just like that! Arrgghh!! I imagined so many uses for it, but I guess it wasn't for me! Check out her shop though. Very cute! : )
This set of glass kitchen canisters are currently housing bran cereal (large one), pasta, cashews and peanuts. So much nicer than having the cereal box above the fridge or the pasta bag spilling over in the cabinet! This fantastic catch all dish (Old USA Los Angeles Pottery) I use for my keys. This one sits right next to the front door on a great little table! Okay... this is my pride and joy. It is a cabinet made of old windows, old doors and old wide plank wood floors. This baby sits in my living room and holds my TV and stereo. Within it there are old law school books, picture frames and random books.
So... what exactly is this post all about? Vintage storage! Not only is effective storage functional and useful (it helps you find things!), but it can also be absolutely gorgeous. I see people buying plastic bins or new baskets as a means to store stuff around the house. But, how about this idea? Old vintage items (cigar boxes, dishes, crates, etc..,). Re-purposing old vintage storage boxes, dishes and crates to satisfy your storage needs today will add vintage charm and interest to your space. Where do you find this stuff? Well... most of the items featured here are currently for sale at my etsy shop (www.mina180.etsy.com). If not on etsy, you can easily find these items at the flea market, estate and garage sales, vintage shops, e-bay or your own garage! All it takes is a little searching and a little imagination. : )
